Bunch of Burtons

Julia's baptismal date has been dropped because her grandparents didn't think she would be ready on time so they planned a three week vacation for Julia to go stay with her mom, I believe she left today, so there's no way she can make it to her own baptism on the 12th. What I understand is that Kurt believes Julia has to have a strong spiritual experience before she is baptized. As if baptism is a test that she has to know all the answers to. Baptism is more of her entering school though rather than taking a test. The knowledge will be built as she acts on her faith, and she does believe the church is true.

"What more can I do?"..."I can Try."

Bunch of Burtons

Crazy morning already. We spent an hour after studies helping a members son move, and then went shopping. As we were about to make the purchase the phone rang and it was Liselotte. She was needing a ride from someone down to Aarhus and was asking us for a members number. The government is putting the family in a family center down in Aarhus for a month or two to help Simon quite drinking and also to get some therapy for the baby Anakin, the nurse thinks he might have a small mental problem. Simon has been put on a medicine that will make him get super sick each time he drinks to drive out the desire to drink. After figuring out a ride from her mom Liselotte called and asked if we could stop by and offer her a blessing to help her get through everything that's going on right now. Elder Hawkes gave an amazing blessing guided by the spirit, and you could see it helped almost immediately. Liselotte still has a strong desire to be baptized, she's going to try to figure out a way to get to church every Sunday in Aarhus. We'll need to let the Elders down there know so they can be on watch for her and help out in any way that they can.

"I can do hard things"

Bunch of Burtons

"I can do hard things", at Zone conference this week they asked us to post that quote somewhere in our apartments. We're going to try and make a huge sign, with one letter on a separate piece of paper.

The Lord works in mysterious ways. Maybe not mysterious always, but defiantly not what you expect. After an appointment with Jan he drove us to the train station in Tolne with only a few minutes to spare before the train arrived, although it never came. There was some announcement over the speaker that we could barely hear, but the next train that came went right on past the station. We decided to use the next hour we had until the next train to knock a few of the streets near by. As we went up the street a bus on its way to Frederikshavn passed us. Somehow we had miss read the bus scheduled or we would have taken that bus home. We started knocking on this one street and two girls were out front of a house having a grass war, they were 10 and 11. They asked us who we were and then started following us around as we knocked. Each time we would go up to the door of a house they would hide behind a bush so that they wouldn't be seen, and then they would keep following us around their neighborhood. At one point we didn't have too much time left before our train came so we started to leave. One of the girls asked if we were going to visit any more houses on the road down to the train station, and we said we might. They then got all excited and said we should knock on their friends door, and they led us over to a house. Before we could knock they opened the door and disappeared inside. Elder Hawkes and I looked at each other and commented, "This is going to be interesting". We were both expecting them to come back with a 10 year old kid for us to talk to. Instead they came back out and said,"He's coming". A guy in his twenties soon came to the door, Rene, and we had a great conversation with him about God. He accepted a Mormons Bog and said he would read it and call us if he had any questions. He seemed like a great guy and really positive. The whole time the two girls were behind us kicking each other. Not how I expected to find a potential investigator. For some reason we had skipped that side of the street on the way up, but God helped us to be able to get into contact with Rene anyway.

Elder Hawkes is an awesome companion. We get along really well and then teach together even better. I cant remember what I said about him last time. He's from South Dakota, ran X-country and did power lifting in Highschool. We've ran almost everyday this last week and its been terrible but amazing at the same time. Its the most I've run in the last 6 months easy. It has taken me a few days to stop being so sore.

Hey Fam! My last week with Elder Horrocks is done, He's on his way to Bornholm. My new companion Elder Hawkes is from South Dakota, I think probably my first companion not from Utah. There aren't too many of those. And there are only two missionaries in the mission right now from Denmark. My chances of serving with a native Dane are pretty slim.

Im in charge of an area again. Its weird not being able to ask "where do you think we should go?" And I've only been here for five weeks so I still dont know the whole area super well. Most of my time here we've spent in Frederikshavn itself, but most of the area is outside of that. We're going to have to learn it on the go, which should be a lot of fun.
