Hey
Everyone!
This week was awesome! I'm
having so much fun in Kushiro! We had more time this week so we went all over
Kushiro looking for people to teach and we had a great time! We saw a
helicopter take off from the top of a hospital, we saw a fox, a lot of birds,
the ocean, and we had a karate night! And one of the people we found last week
came to the karate night and we had a great lesson afterward! Before the lesson
he read the introduction to the Book of Mormon and the testimony of Joseph
Smith, and he said he liked it but couldn't really believe it. But we taught
him about prophets and the restoration and prayer and he said he'll pray to
know if it's true! He's a college student who seems to be really searching for
answers so he's very prepared. We also on the same day we found him had another
cool experience. We went into a neighborhood planning on knocking doors for a
little while, and we walked past the first few houses until we came to a house
that had a couple of really nice cars out front. My companion was like,
"These are cool cars, let's knock on this house." So we did and a man
answered, saw us, and told us to wait a minute and went back in. A couple
minutes later a teenager walks out and says in perfect English, "I lived in
Canada for four years so I speak English." We were way surprised, but we
were able to talk with him and his mom, who also speaks English, and they had
actually been looking for a Christian church in Kushiro! The son is going to go
to America to play hockey in college if he can so his parents want him to learn
about Christianity so we'll see how that goes. It was fun getting the chance to
testify in English.
I also went on splits with
Elder Minegishi yesterday, he was my companion for two transfers in Shiroishi
so it was fun working with him again. He's so good at talking to people. Also,
he's from Okinawa, so he's super pumped that there's going to be a temple
there! I'm way pumped about it too! It will be the fourth temple in Japan and I
think most of the members weren't really expecting another temple soon. The
Sapporo temple is already bigger than it needs to be for how many members are
in Hokkaido. It goes to show that the Lord has high expectations for the work
here in Japan, there is a miracle coming and in the words of Heber J. Grant, it
will astonish the world in years to come. I'm so excited for the Japanese
people! And I'm excited to watch General Conference this weekend! I know this
church is true and the work will continue to roll forth! If you don't know that
yourself then I invite you, just as we invited that college student this week,
to get down on you knees and pray as Joseph Smith did. I promise that if you
sincerely do so you will receive an answer through the Holy Ghost and it will
change your life. I love you all! Have a great week!
Love,
Elder
Burton
