Hey
Everyone!
We have zone conference
tomorrow which is why this email is so late. This week was awesome! On Thursday
we went and picked up trash on a bike path near the temple with some other
missionaries, and we met someone who lives in Shiroishi who met with the
missionaries before! She stopped because they asked her to get baptized before
she knew anything about baptism so she got scared, but she seemed interested in
meeting again. She wouldn't exchange contact info though so hopefully she'll
come to church sometime.
On Friday we did exchanges
with the Atsubetsu elders which was fun, I was with Elder Nagashima who was in
an apartment with me in Hakodate so it brought back good memories. We had a
lesson with Yukari San who has been taking the lessons for a while and it went
well, she's an interesting person. She's read the Book of Mormon three times
since March when she first started meeting with the missionaries and she's now
reading the Doctrine and Covenants. And she believes the Book of Mormon is
true! And yet she doesn't believe that Joseph Smith is a prophet, she just
thinks he was a good translator, which is a first for me. Usually if people
think Joseph Smith wasn't a prophet, they think he wrote the Book of Mormon
himself, and therefore it's not true either. I've never seen someone believe
and read the Book of Mormon so much and not believe that Joseph Smith is a
prophet, but hopefully we can help her gain that testimony.
On Saturday we brought someone
we met on Thursday night to the Atsubetsu ward Halloween party, it was great! I
dressed up as Superman, I had a Superman shirt under my white shirt and
Superman socks with capes and everything:) Yamazaki San, the person we brought
said she would also come to Eikaiwa on Tuesday but didn't show up which was too
bad.
On Sunday we got to watch the
primary program it was awesome! There's only three primary kids in Shiroishi
ward but their teachers sang with them and it was so good! The Spirit was so
strong, which was especially great because a man who heard about the church
from a friend came to sacrament meeting for the first time and it was a perfect
introduction, they even taught very simply how to pray. He's really busy but
hopefully we'll be able to meet with him.
Lastly, I also finished
reading a book I found in the apartment called "A Marvelous Work and a
Wonder" by Legrand Richards. It's really good, I highly recommend it. My
testimony of the restoration has increased a lot. I know that Joseph Smith was
a prophet God, the Book of Mormon is true, and this is Christ's restored
church, the only way we can come unto Him and gain eternal life. I love you
all! Have a great week!
Love,
Elder
Burton
