Bunch of Burtons

We took a District activity this week to the Odense Zoo, advertised to be the best zoo in Europe. Kind of got our hopes up a little to much though. It was kind of weird. Other than an elementry class we were the only ones in the park. And all the food stands were closed so no snaks. The toilets were free though so thats a bonus! It was actually still pretty cool. The pinguin exibit was awesome. There was this one small pinguin that was showing off and kept zooming around, jumping out, jumping back in and didnt calm down for a good ten minutes.

This week when we were waiting at the Ă…bent Kirke (open church) for people to come, so we could give tours, teach english, teach lessons, ext. I used family search to figure out my blood line.

Our next door naighbor (spelling?) Sweden has just gotten iPhones. All the missionaries here are buzzing that we'll be next. President has been trying to get iPads for the mission for a while now and has been saying they'll be here this year. Kind of crazy. It really would be such a great tool for the areas though. It would make organizing information so much easier. In Odense we've already been trying to incorperate computers into the work. We've made spreadsheets that help organize the less active members in the ward and which missionaries are working with who. Right now to use it though we have to check it when we are at the church building, and being able to have it on iPads/phones whould be super nice.

My new companion - Elder Johnson

"Prepared against the Day of Battle" By Elder Eduardo Gavarret

May we, by placing our trust in the Savior, the Lord of Hosts, be prepared and not stumble on the field of battle.
In 1485, Richard III was on the English throne. It was a time of instability, and Richard had to defend his crown more than once. But he was an experienced military veteran, a bold and shrewd warrior who had an army of between 8,000 and 10,000 men.
That same year, a pretender to the English throne, Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, challenged and confronted Richard in a place that gave the battle its name: Bosworth Field. Henry, unlike Richard, had little combat experience, and his forces numbered only 5,000. But at his side he had good advisers—noblemen who had taken part in similar battles, including some against Richard. The morning of the battle arrived, and everything suggested that Richard would be victorious.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Bunch of Burtons

Happy St. Patricks day everyone! I had no idea today was St. Patricks until last night when a member invited us over to a St. Patricks day party/ eating apointment for tonight. I would have gone straight through the week and not even know. A lot sneeks up on you when your busy. This weeks been way busy. Elder Johnson and I went through our area book and Kraked everyone we didnt know. Krack is a danish website that has the address and phone number for everyone in Denmark. It makes it fairly easy to find out if people have moved or not, or if you were just given false information. Now we are able to visit all the past investigators without worring about if they still live there.

Starting Wednesday we have been taking an hour in the evenings just to contact people on the street using family history. Its amaizing how many more people actually let you talk to them once they realize your not talking about God. We've talked to a lot of people who right off the bat say their not interested, then I pull out my family fan chart from familysearch and all of a sudden the're willing to listen. We've given out at least five family search cards a day sense Wednesday and usually we'll get lucky to give out one or two a week.

Elder Kenneth Wm. Burton - Transfer madness!

Bunch of Burtons

Elder Hinrichs is gone and Im now with Elder Johnson from Lehi Utah. He's only been here for maybe an hour, so I dont know him to well yet but he seems to be a great guy and we're definatly going to work well together. Its so weird being the one kind of in charge, showing where everything is at, and leading everywhere. Its not a bad change though. Elder Johnson has only been in the feild a few transfers longer than I have and he's only served in one other area, so all this transfer madness is new to him too. I would send a photo of him, and photos of the rest of the week, but unfortunatly I forgot my camera on my desk back in the apartment, so photos will have to wait until next week.

Its so warm today! Its the first day my mission Ive been able to comfortably go outside without a jacket. And its warm enough to make me wish I had brought more short sleave shirts, I think ill probably survive though. Its getting sunnier too! The sun is up by seven now instead of 10.30 when I got here.

D&C 135:6 They lived for glory; they died for glory; and glory is their eternal reward.
Bunch of Burtons

Lets see how to begin. I guess first of all Michelle has postponed her baptisimal date. She was recieving a lot of negative pressure from her family telling her not to do it, and a lot of positive presure from the church, so she decided to postpone so that she has time to make sure it really is her decision. Last sunday she didnt come to church because she was showing her dad she's not forced to come. She came yesterday though and at our lesson with her on Thursday she was saying that she hadnt been feeling ready before, but once she decided to postpone she feels ready and still wants to be baptised. We dont have another date yet, but it'll come. At the end of the lesson she gave me and Elder Hinrichs each a bag of chocolate with a note saying thanks for all we've done, and saying that she wanted us to be the witnesses at her baptism, so she definatly is planning on being baptised.
