Bunch of Burtons

We locked ourselves out of our apartment a few days ago. We both left our keys inside. Elder Parry was trying to do the card trick, sliding a credit card though the door to unlock it, but to no success. So I suggested we try the same thing with our window, we'd actually be able to see through it and see if the card was anywhere close to the lock. Problem is our back widow is on the second story, so I par-cored up the wall onto our balcony to find the window was already unlocked! I never close the window without locking it. A huge blessing! From what I hear a locksmith costs a lot, which we would have had to pay for ourselves.

Its been a great last week. A little more difficult to get into contact with people, but that seems to be how it is every first week of each transfer. Every six weeks people just don't like to be home or answer there phones for one reason or another. Britte came to church though! She's doing well. Still as busy as ever. After church there was food provided because it was Branch Conference. While eating I was talking to Erik a little about temples, because he'll be doing baptisms for the dead for the first time next week. Britte was sitting near us and soon had some great questions about temples. One member pulled out an Ipad and showed Britte some photos and did a great job explaining what temples are and their importance. Isn't it amazing that because of the priesthood that has been restored to the earth we have so many blessings like temple work!? The priesthood is an amazing gift to be able to bless others here on the earth. And its only used for the service of other.

Well, I'll be staying here in Randers for at least another six weeks. Elder Perry, my new companion just transferred here from Holbæk. He's only got two transfers left of his mission. We had a crazy experience this morning. I had taken a train to Aarhus where I waited with the missionaries there for Elder Perry, but he was on a different train than we expected and continued on to Randers without me. After he arrived he found a phone and we got word of where he was, so I was able to jump on the next train, a 40 minute ride alone, back to Randers. That was a very weird 40 minutes. It seems like something crazy always happens on transfer day.

We had a neat opportunity on Thursday to receive our transfer calls in person with President Sederholm rather than just over the phone. At the end of our zone conference President went through all the missionaries telling us where we will be serving and asking if we would accept the call.

Argentina! Another two years without seeing Ike, its worth it because the Lord is in it.

I'll start out with a story. Hopefully I explain it well so its not to confusing. On exchanges this last Wednesday Elder Zenger and I got to an appointment a little early so we wandered around the block for a few minutes looking for something to do for 20 minutes. We began knocking an apartment building, one of the doors an older man answers. I make a comment that I like the ring of his door bell, because it was a song, and he closes the door with no comment. Disappointed we start walking down the stairs. The door behind us opens back up and the older gentleman motions for us to come back, then he disappears into his apartment. We follow him in, kind of confused, and there is a woman sitting on a couch reading a text on her phone. We sit down and she goes on to read us a text, a friend of hers had just passed away from cancer. In tears she describes to us that he was the fourth friend in the last two months she's had pass away. All she knows is that God has his reasons, but that she is confused about why it was them that was taken.

Well, lets see... This last week we've been helping this man named Mehmet find an apartment, we contacted him on the street, his wife has kicked him out so he has no where to live right now. We met him at his friends pizza shop and were given a free pizza for our service! That makes two free pizzas this week. The other was when we were riding our bikes home for dinner one evening a member saw us while walking her dog so she called us to say she was craving pizza and was to lazy to go out and get it herself. She told us to buy three large pizzas and we could keep one for ourselves. People don't normally buy that much pizza here, totally an American thing, she's from Texas so it makes sense.

We finally got into contact with Britte! About a month ago we had tried to set a baptismal date with her for the 14th of March, but she hadn't been very sure about it and wanted to pray about it on her own. Then at Stake Conference some members brought her and we found out she was working for the 14th, only two weeks away. This last week we had stopped by or called Britte at least every day but couldn't get into contact with her until she came to church yesterday. Because she's feeling a little stressed out about her baptism being so soon without much preparation, we're going to move it back a couple of weeks. She's agreed though to daily contact to help prepare her and help her receive the answer that she's looking for.

Bunch of Burtons

I forgot to mention a crazy story that happened a couple weeks ago. So we were walking along the street after an appointment one evening. This woman was coming towards us and called out "Er du politi?" or "Are you the police?". Of course we answer no. As she got up to us we could see she was pretty shaken. She started going off about how someone was trying to kill her. She had been visiting someone when he came at her with a club, which she had taken from him and currently was hidden in her jacket. She continued to say he came at her with a knife, and she showed us this steak knife she had hidden up her sleeve. By now we could smell the alcohol on her so we weren't sure how true her story was, but we walked her to her apartment because she was worried she was being followed. She kicked at her door trying to get her husband to open it for her, but he saw us through the peep whole and also thought we were police, so he wouldn't open up. When she finally got in she went straight over to a tank by the wall and pulled out a huge snake and wrapped it over her shoulders, while she tried explaining to her husband what happened. He didn't seem to believe her. So kind of a weird experience. We left a card and the woman got really excited when she heard we were from our church, saying it must have been meant to be, that we were sent to help her. Which is totally possible. She hasn't called yet like she promised so we may stop by sometime, make sure she's doing all right.
